Mercer Cafe | Ebisu | Cafe-Restaurant

Mercer Cafe |

P000914699_640
My friends and I had a small nomikai here this past weekend, and we all went home with full stomachs and smiles on our faces. A five minute walk from Ebisu station this "dining cafe" seems to be the place to go for beautiful urbanites (such as ourselves…haha). Cool chefs and a waitress so cute the slightly tipsy girls among us all had to tell her how cute she was, Mercer Cafe also serves some amazing dishes. One of our favorites was the wagyu beef carpaccio. I’ll have to put this place on my list of cool restaurants for parties.

Neuf Cafe | Ebisu | Cafe-Restaurant

Fin_groumet15247_l Neuf Cafe is more cafe than restaurant despite their dinner menu, but in either case, the relaxed, retro atmosphere is addictive, for this wannabe writer anyway. My photographer friend Seiyu introduced me to Neuf one summer afternoon and we drank wine and cheese on the rooftop terrace next to the cafe. (Perhaps another reason why I love this place?) Good coffee and cocktails, and the sausage with mashed potatoes is done just right. They played mostly jazz when I’ve been there, but that could be just me.

A hole-in-the-wall type place ("anaba" in Japanese), this place can be a bit hard to find for first timers. Exit Ebisu Stn. West Gate and with the police box on your right (near the rotary), cross the street and walk straight toward Ebisu 1chome intersection. From there, turn right, then right again before the railroad tracks. It’s on the 9th floor of the building just before a small design school. Elevator only goes up to the 8th floor, but if you’ve gotten that far, you don’t have anything to worry about.

Cafe MANGROVE | Ebisu | Cafe-Restaurant

Mangrove1

Same company that runs Cafe MANGROVE in Odaiba and Ikejiri, this sweet spot behind Ebisu Garden Place. They offer a mix of Southeast Asian dishes, but once again we were mostly eating Thai. My friend who made the reservation was saying that the place always seems to be really busy, and that we were lucky to get space for eight.

The Food:

This "Shrimp Toast Thai-style" (タイ風エビのトースト) was heavenly. The Tom Yam Kun (トムヤムクン - Thai-style soup) was also very good, though I think the one at Coci was slightly better.

What I really wanted to try, and didn’t get to was the "Thai-style Milk Marinated Grilled Chicken" (タイ風 あじわい鶏のもも肉のオーブン焼き バイマックルーの香り付け). Apparently, they marinated the chicken thighs in milk for over five hours then roast it in the oven. Hmmm…maybe I’ll have to try it out myself one day.

Coci | Ebisu | Cafe Restaurant

Coci2

Visited this cool piece from CP Organizing for dinner last Saturday for a small nomikai.

The atmosphere: Elegant for an intimate date but casual enough for a nomikai with friends. The first floor has a bar and several counter-high tables with an cozy sofa and table beneath the stairs in the back. The second floor has more tables. I need to have a party here one day…

Coci_2
The eats: If you’re looking for real Thai food, I wouldn’t recommend it, but they’re concept is not Thai, it’s Thai-Euro. What that translates into is great Thai-inspired food along with main entrees like the Grilled Beef Filet (1900 yen, 仔牛フィレ肉のグリル カシスソース じゃがいものパンナコッタ添え) I had the first I came.

The staff: They’re busy on Saturday nights and my first impression was that they were a bit formal…at first. They become friendlier as the night goes on.

Ura (Cafe, Ebisu) and Suna (Moroccan, Omotesando) are two more great places also by CP Organizing.
